The building that houses the Hotel Gerbermühle has seen many transformations over the centuries since it was built in the 1300s. Constructed on left bank of the River Main in the 14th century, the structure was surely destined for great things as this was the foundation the rich history of the hotel today. In the 16th century, it was turned into a corn mill and in the 17th century, a tannery. These two historic roles have given the Gerbermühle its name. ‘Gerber’ means tannery and ‘Mühle’, mill. Its transformation into world famous hotel was envisioned by owner, Werner Kindermann who pioneered its renovation and refurbishment.

The German hotel is located in the posh Sachsenhausen neighborhood in Frankfurt. Sachsenhausen is characterized cobblestone streets and sun-dappled squares, which are an absolute pleasure to stroll. The area is best known for its apple wine and offers a vibrant nightlife with lots of bars and beer gardens to choose from.

The suites of the hotel were the creation of architects Müller & Jourdan, who drew inspiration from the building’s physical structure and historical legacy. The old stone walls and exposed beams are remnants of the build’s past. Each room is named after someone who played a role in the life of structure.
